My wife's experience

Post by theckid on Mon Sep 22, 2008 3:46 pm

At the time my wife was going to school at UMass and just come back to Somerset for winter break. She was staying with her mother in a tiny apartment which was attached to a huge house on a hill in the Old Village of Somerset. The house I believe was atleast 100 years old. The tiny apartment used to be the maid's quarters back in the day. Had almost no kitchen (only a sink and small stove) and hardly any living space in the living room. It reminded me of the close quarters of a submarine (I was never a sailor but I have seen the living spaces in a submarine, and its tight). It was heated by a gas space heater in the corner, and surprisingly had an upstairs where the bedroom and bathroom were.

It was close to midnight and my wife was in the apartment alone (her mother was working nights at the time). She was upstairs lying on the bed when she started smelling perfume. It wasnt the kind of perfume that women wear today but was the old fashion floral perfume. As the perfume smell got stronger and stronger the smoke detector started going off. My wife was so scared she could not move from the bed, but instead put the covers over her head until the smoke alarm stopped. When it stopped there was no trace aroma of the perfume whatsoever.

To this day she could still remember the smell of the perfume. Her mother also claims she experienced cold spots in that apartment and I believe the owner has seen glimpses of an aparition around the outside of the house looking in. The house is no longer there, it was demolished a few years ago.

Phantom smells are always very interesting. Especially with something like that....a smoke detector going off...that's awesome.
